Why the family comes along
In many countries a patient rarely travels for surgery alone — parents, siblings and children come too. Yatharth's international desk plans for this: family accommodation near the hospital, visitor arrangements, and updates given to the family together.
Decisions made together
Consent for major surgery is a family conversation. Dr Gupta explains the diagnosis, the operation, the risks and the recovery to everyone in the room, with an interpreter where needed, and answers every question before a date is fixed.
The follow-up
This visit is the last before travel home: wound and reports reviewed, medicines explained, a summary written for the doctor at home, and a video follow-up date agreed. The photograph is usually the family's own idea — most ask for one.
